The Power of Your Mind

Our most powerful thoughts are generated subconsciously and automatically. Most times we are unaware of the energy we send out through our thoughts, which help shape and create our realities. Some people understand the power of the mind and make efforts to become more conscious of their habitual thinking process. However, there are some who are unaware and often find themselves continuously hitting brick walls when it comes to success and finding fulfilment.

Success begins in the mind

Your thoughts, which are part of your mind, possess power. You may have read the world-wide phenomenon called The Secret. This book outlines a universal and ancient understanding of the interrelationship between our thoughts and the realities we experience. The law of attraction is as absolute as the law of gravity. It is an understanding that many religious texts have attempted to describe…. e.g. ‘As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he’ – Proverbs 23: 7 (The Bible).

The thoughts that you most often think tend to come true. Within each of us lies an immense power to create because we are connected to the source of all that is – God, the universal creator, the higher self. Everything we see and don’t see are all a part of the infinite whole.

If you pour your mental energy into the same thoughts or mental images day after day, they will become stronger and stronger, and would consequently affect your attitude, expectations, behaviour and actions. If you keep thinking about difficulties, fears and failure your life will mirror these thoughts. If you keep thinking about your current circumstances you will keep recreating them. Most people get caught in this way of thinking, and consequently attract into their lives the same kind of events and circumstances over and over again.

You can change your thoughts and start to think in a more positive way and paint new, beautiful, and positive images in your mind. When you become aware of your thoughts, you will be able to recognise that your mind is a powerful tool for your use. You will arrive at a point, where you will be able to free yourself from negative thoughts which once would have paralysed you.

Setting your mind to achieve

To accomplish anything, and to use your mind power, you have to focus your mind on a clear and well defined goal. How do you go about that?

1) Find out what you want: 

You have to first find out what is it that you want to accomplish or gain. This might not be a simple step and may require deep thinking, investigation and time.

2) Come up with a plan: 

After discovering what you really want to accomplish, you need to come up with a plan for action. Start by thinking of your first step; after all Rome wasn’t built in a day!

3) Visualise your success: 

After deciding on your goal you need to hold in your mind a clear mental image of having accomplished your goal.

4) Be patient:

At this point you have to display patience, self-discipline and the power to persist in your efforts. This requires a one pointed mind.

5) Maintain your stance:

Affirmations are another useful mental tool for achieving success. What you affirm sinks into the subconscious mind, becomes part of the subconscious mind, and consequently affects your behaviour and actions. If your affirmations are positive, they lead you to success.

6) Stay focused and keep persisting:

Motivation is another mental and emotional power that you require for achieving success. How can you achieve anything if you are not motivated enough? To increase your motivation and enthusiasm, think often of your goal, about its advantages and benefits, and how it will change your life. Doing so, will strengthen your motivation.
